Newfound Networks Case Studies
Eaton Electrical
Newfound Networks provides remote 'Pain Free' help to the Eaton Electrical I.T. staff in Burlington, ON.
While providing this help to quickly move their data network to the new location in Dartmouth, NS,
we provided efficient trouble-shooting expertise for a problem that developed.
The Client
Eaton Electrical supplies industrial power components
in Halifax Regional Municipality to a variety of customers. The company was
operating out of two locations in Dartmouth, and had decided to move both
into one new larger location. Eaton Electrical needed their two existing networks
dismantled, moved to the new location, redeployed as one single network and
in a timely fashion.
However without local IT staff available, Eaton Electrical had to source
a local company with expertise in networking.
The Solution
Since Eaton Electrical had enjoyed previous successes with Newfound Networks
it was only natural for them to call upon us again. Newfound Networks provided
Kelly Martin, IT Manager in Ontario, not just with a set of "hands", but also
advanced expertise in internetworking to manage any problems that could arise.
In a short time the network equipment was back on line at the new location,
but there was a problem. One of the main servers was not appearing on the
network. It was up and running, it had connectivity to the network, but
the desktop PCs simply could not connect to it. Newfound Networks, after
analyzing the whole scenario concluded that the server network settings
changed during the power up boot process, something that should not have
happened. Since the server is not on the network, there is no way Kelly
can login to fix it. Essentially she is 'locked out'. After getting the logon
password from Kelly and logging in, the
conclusion was confirmed, the settings had changed. Once the settings were
set correctly, the server-client connections quickly came up automatically.
The Benefit
The benefit to Eaton Electrical and both Burlington and Dartmouth staff was
simple: A pain free redeployment of their network at their new location. Along
the way certain items were noted and passed on to Kelly to help prevent future
surprises and troubles.
As we kind of said earlier, Kelly was not just looking to get her network moved.
She and the staff at Burlington and Dartmouth were also looking for expertise to
deliver a 'pain free' way of getting back online, and managing any surprises
that occur.
Kelly Martin reports "It is always a pleasure working with Newfound
Networks. They get the job done right the first time, on time."
